Statistics for you alumette: For every 100 babies born to women age 45, 3-4 will have Down's Syndrome. Put another way, 96-97 will be fine. Seems like pretty good odds.

Robyn D - do you know why US kids fare miserably against kids from other countries? Because we are a democratic nation. ALL our children are tested. In India, only the top 10% in wealth and education are tested.

digitalnoise: so they toughened standards between 2002 and 2008. Not saying much. Also, HOW did they toughen standards? By requiring more math and science classes? So what if they pass kids through who do nothing. I know. My stepson was passed through a math class he did not attend.

I agree Jaun. I have a stepson who did horrendously in school (I didn't become his stepmom until he was a senior). I have a friend who is a HS teacher. She told me (with eyes rolling) not to worry. EVERYONE graduates.
